Maths
Maths is a creative and highly inter-connected discipline, which is essential to everyday life, critical to science, technology and engineering and necessary for financial literacy and most forms of employment. A high-quality mathematics education provides a foundation for understanding the world, the ability to reason mathematically, an appreciation of the beauty and power of mathematics, and a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject.
Number Sense
In Key Stage 1 (and with a catch-up program in Key Stage 2) we follow Number Sense’s Number Facts Fluency Programme, which teaches a defined set of addition and subtraction facts and a defined set of calculation strategies in a very visual way. This systematic and structured approach, helps to ensure that our children develop key visual pathways and learn important number relationships. This will lead to a deeper understanding of number and number relationships, and fluency in addition and subtraction facts, which helps build strong foundations for their maths journey.
Maths Meetings
From Foundation Stage 1 through to Upper Key Stage 2, we believe that the Maths Meetings are a vital part of our Maths Mastery programme. They help to consolidate learning outside of the core maths lesson and provide a fun way for pupils to practise applying their knowledge and skills on a regular basis. This helps build on their mastery of key concepts.
